Quita only lived a few miles away from Alfie Bryant (Rougemont) and if she cycled the two and a half miles to the end of the lane she could get a lift with him to shows. Before long she had also met Betty Macleod (Dulac) who had bred Dulac Heathlands Commander, a super white dog who was exported to America; Betty and Quita remained lifelong friends. It was Maurice Wilson who advised Quita to use Blanmerle Bell Buoy (owned by Mrs. Marchant in Birmingham but standing at stud at Alfie Bryant’s), he was a well marked brindle dog. Quita had been horrified with the arrival of her first litter to discover that all the puppies had pink noses, no-one had told her that they changed colour as they grew! Quita was fast learning that the ups and downs of the dog world were a constant battle.
